I am a professional faux finisher (decorative painter) by trade and have been doing this for approximately 20 years. Always having had a love of all things nature, I decided to try my hand several years ago with making gemstones...some that I even mined myself!...into jewelry. It is a passion that actually started when I was a little girl and my dad brought home a box of beautiful polished gemstones from one of his many travels abroad. I've always been fascinated by natural beauty in colors of stones, sunsets, clouds, flowers, etc. If something I put together doesn't “flow”, I have to start over and it isn't complete until it looks like something I just couldn't live without! My greatest inspirations are people I have known and love, places I have been in my life and the animals that are some of my favorite little companions (yes, we have seven furry little kids!!). My husband, mother and step-father are my biggest supporters and usually one of them accompanies me to my shows and gemstone hunts. My sister, who sadly succumbed to a short battle with breast cancer in 1998, was also a huge support and inspiration to me and several of my pieces have been named after things that remind me of her! I hope that people enjoy wearing my pieces as much as I enjoy making them!!

Goat milk soap, goat milk lotion, lip balms, lotion bars, salves, candles, baby products and much more!

Our hobby farming start came almost 20 years ago with our teenage daughter wanting to compete with 4H dairy goats. We found that we could not drink the milk - it was very strong. Since we had store bought goat milk, we thought this was how goat milk should smell and taste. We learned to make goat milk soap with the milk we had. Wonderful, unscented goat milk soap.

Fast forward a bit and we were transplanted to Kentucky. We had a son that was allergic to Kentucky "and everything else". We purchased goats again - this time Alpines. We quickly learned that the sagebrush the other goats were eating were what made the milk unusable except in soap and maybe cheese. These goats and a sick little boy transformed our lives.

We starting searching out answers to why this child was sick and what we could do about it. We found that is was our "food" and products we purchased that was causing us all so many health concerns. Now we grow almost all of our own food and make all of our products with your health in mind too. We use untainted milk, beeswax and honey, herbs and oils from our small farm; along with some certified organic, sustainably grown additions to make the products that we offer for sale.

Marilyn was the first licensed cosmetic manufacturer ever in the state. Kentucky is one of the very few states that require such stringent guidelines as to how/where you can make product. All of our product is now made in Versailles, KY in a commercial kitchen.

At the fair, I will be offering “mini murals” - an assortment of canvases and plaques that range from inspirational quotes to seasonal decoration, and of course, i am always happy to take orders for personalized items! (these are my favorite and shipping to you is free!) Most of my artwork is specifically custom made for children, but I have a few things for adults too :)

3. Tell us some more about yourself.

I am the mother to one 5 year old sweet pea! I started this company when my little one was born back in 2006. I wanted THE perfect baby nursery and decided that I would try painting something special for her. After all, I had been drawing and painting most of my life and I had a degree from one of the best art colleges in the country (Ringling College of Art and Design). So how hard could it be?! It turns out, I really enjoyed doing this project and the comments from family and friends about her room were all so positive. I could definitely get used to doing things like this but I only had one child and only so many walls in my house!

Eventually, I expanded on my love of painting walls and started doing “mini murals” This was a great way for me to share my creativity with clients who weren’t local and/or didn’t want something quite so permanent. So here I am now, making cute spaces and ‘ready to hang’ art for other little sweet peas and loving every minute of it!

I custom make any bow with your favorite colors or design. This is a great way to show off your team or school colors.

My name is Jamie Doan, and I run The Sunday Flower, an Etsy shop.

2. What can shoppers expect to see at the Birds of a Feather Fair from your booth?

My specialty is paper flowers, done in the kusudama style of origami. I'll have all kinds of these flowers available at the fair -- arrangements in vases/containers, a la carte stemmed flowers, unstemmed flowers, holiday decor flowers and wedding items. I'll also have other paper goods, such as cards, gift tags and cupcake wrappers. You might even see some handmade fabric buttons and jewelry at my booth.

I started making paper flowers to use as centerpieces for my own wedding (which took place Sept. 9, 2011), and fell in love with how great they look in so many settings. "Paper flowers" might not sound durable, but these are surprisingly strong, helped by the fact the flowers are made from sturdy acid-free cardstock. They're sure to last you a long time, and are great for anyone who has allergies or a "brown" thumb.

I have two associates, one in Fine Art and one in Art History. I am so happy to have a hobby that allows me to utilize my artistic side. I love knowing people all over the world are wearing pieces that I have made! Selling handmade crafts has created a network for me of such talented, kind, and creative people. My jewelry is a mixture of vintage and new components. I spend hours mixing and matching findings and coming up with the perfect design. I enjoy telling customers about the history of each piece and how some beads came from Japan in the 1950s but the pendant is new from a shop in California, etc. It really makes you realize how unique and special handmade jewelry is and that it truly is one of a kind art!

Party Paper Collections – I make custom and personalized party paper goods, such as cupcake toppers, place cards, food labels, water bottle labels, thank you tags, invitations and party banners. At the Fair, I will be selling a few samples of my party collections, including holiday collections. I will also take orders for personalized and/or custom party packages.

I’ve always loved a great party! One of my first party memories as a child was my mom making a me a Strawberry Shortcake cake for my birthday. I adored that cake, probably even more than any present I received!

Once I had my own children, I spent months planning their parties. The special, handmade touches gives parties that special touch. After much encouragement from friends and family, I decided to make a business out of my passion.

I am a very lucky mom of two beautiful boys. They keep me VERY busy but we always have fun. I quit my design job to stay at home with my first son and to keep my creative side satisfied I started doing wedding invitations, videos, and party invites. This eventually turned into stationery and craft shows. I love being a part of the special events in people's lives and I'm so thankful and honored when people ask me to create things for them.

I also love baking and throwing parties. It's such a thrill to create a fabulous atmosphere that makes that special event more memorable for years to come. I believe that it's all about the little details in life.

Chocolate, sugar, and creativity - three of my favorite things in life! My name is Kelly Gindele, and I am the owner of Decadence.

2. What can shoppers expect to see at the Birds of a Feather Fair from your booth?

We specialize in custom gourmet desserts. Decadence is my second job (well, actually third behind being a wife and mother) and my passion. For my day job, I sit behind a desk all day doing mainly uncreative tasks. I felt like I was in a rut. Then, for daughters 3rd birthday last year, it hit me - I wanted to learn to make and decorate awesome cakes. I always let my daughters pick their birthday party theme. My daughter, Mayson, chose The Wizard of Oz. I had so much fun creating a 3D house sitting atop the Wicked Witch of the East, the yellow brick road, and even the Emerald City. Though I knew I had a lot to learn, it turned out great! I have since made tons of cakes for various themes, including Cincinnati Reds, Sesame Street, Scrabble, and Candyland. I have made birthday cakes, wedding and baby shower cakes, holiday cakes, 1st Communion cakes, and plenty of other cakes and desserts. I also decided to expand to all sorts of delicious desserts. I love sitting down with my clients to design the perfect custom dessert that fits their needs and tastes! It such a great experience to get in the kitchen and experiment with various flavor combinations and decorating techniques. It definitely gets my creative juices pumping!! Decadence is going to be showcasing various desserts at the Fair this year, including Cupcakes in a Jar! These are great gifts (or even better to keep for yourself)! They include decorative jars, delicious cupcakes, and even a spoon to eat them. We will have a variety of standard and holiday flavors!

3. Tell us some more about yourself.

I am a wife to an amazing husband and a mother to two beautiful, intelligent, hilarious little girls. My husband recently made the courageous decision to go back to college, and I am so proud of him. Between my day job, his day job, his evenings at school, our kids and their activities, and Decadence, we live a fantastically chaotic life! And I wouldn't change a thing! My dad passed away unexpectedly at the incredibly young age of 44. As devastated as I was that he died, he gave me a profound parting gift. He made me look hard at my life and realize that I should not take one moment of it for granted. There are so many wonderful things to experience in this world, and I want my daughters to grow up trying

to take advantage of each one. I have so many blessings in my life, and I am truly grateful for every one. I want my kids to have fun and be kids for as long as possible, and I love that they keep me young. I love seeing the world through their eyes. Whether it's playing in the sprinklers at the park, acting like pirates for the day, or playing in the leaves, a good day is any day I am spending with them!

I started this little business called Bath Wishes back in July 2003 selling to friends and family and then expanded to selling on eBay. I’ve always loved things that smelled good and things that make you feel good all over so I wanted to make items for others who also loved those things too. When I was a child I used to get into my Grandmas things and mix stuff up and see what I could make. Now I get the chance to mix things up and create new and exciting things for my customers, friends and family members. I decided to take a little break from making stuff when the economy went downhill, because so did my business and now I'm planning on giving it another shot as I would love to do it full time again. My dream is to open my own shop someday. I do work another Part-Time job 3rd shift which can hinder my time to make things as I don’t have a set schedule and I have 2 growing boys ages 14 ½ and 12 who keep me busy as well. If I had my choice, I would make my items on a Full-Time basis again as it’s what I enjoy doing most of all. I look forward to meeting everyone who comes out to the show and am so thankful to be a part of it.

My husband and I grew up over 8,000 miles apart, he in India and I in the USA. We have 4 year old twin girls (Evie and Lizzie) and a sweet 3 year old little boy.

I always have some kind of project going on in my head, putting patterns and colors together. When I am not in my studio, I enjoy playing with our kids and making Indian food.

I design vintage-inspired jewelry that is eclectic and unique. The majority of pieces include vintage elements.

3. Tell us some more about yourself.

Having an appreciation for those things old and lovingly worn has inspired me to merge my love of vintage with that of unique and sparkly to create my other love, jewelry. I inherited this appreciation from my Grandma Ruth, who was a talented artist and seamstress and saved every extra button, sequin, bead, and other odds and ends and lovingly sorted and stored them. When I would visit her as a child, I would love to visit her sewing closet, the one with all the "treasures." With Grandma's passing, I inherited those findings and kept them because they are still so beautiful, they hold special memories for me, and I knew they would one day be put to good use.

I worked in fine jewelry sales for several years before I started making my own pieces with some of the findings from my grandmother; partly to update my personal wardrobe and partly to maintain some semblance of sanity in my home full of boys. I used special pieces I had acquired throughout my life and some I found here and there, mostly in antique shops. I love incorporating unexpected items into the pieces: hardware from doors, light fixtures, etc. People would stop me and ask where I got these unusual necklaces and bracelets. I started making pieces for my friends and family to wear and they encouraged me to stop giving it away and start selling it. And so began "In Small Spectacles."

I have been making gifts for friends and family for years and recently decided to open a shop doing just that. I love learning something new and because of that, The Thrifty Gift is ever changing. I enjoy all kinds of mediums and currently the shop is full of handmade jewelry, handmade polymer clay beads and projects and the newest gifts are greeting cards and embellished ink pen sets.

I love that I can work on these pieces at home and that my family is invovled. I get critique and run ideas past my husband, the children play with all of the supplies and are constantly creating along side Mommy. I love art, I love craft, I love handmade, I love creating and I am so happy to be a part of the Birds of a Feather Fair!

Hello. My name is Linda J. Scaggs and I'd like to welcome you to L’injoy where you will find unique, wire sculptured jewelry creations blending together classic simplicity, romantic charm, and timeless elegance.

Each piece is individually handcrafted insuring unique one-of-a-kind creations as unique and individual as you are! I take great pride in my artistry and am committed to quality – quality in craftsmanship and quality in materials.

3. Tell us some more about yourself.

I studied at the William Holland School of Lapidary Arts and learned wirewrapping techniques by the former President of the Kentucky Guild for Artists and Craftsmen.

I purchase precious metal wire and sheets in copper, sterling silver, and 14k rolled gold from reputable jewelry supply companies and start the creative process using traditional wire wrapping techniques and various hand tools. I purchase semi-precious gems and stones from known lapidarists who hand-cut and polish their cabochon stones (such as African Queen Jasper, Mexican Crazy Lacy Agate, and River Jasper). I also purchase a variety of glass sheets and then hand-cut and fuse glass pendants. Other purchased embellishments may include semi-precious stones, Swarovski crystals, and freshwater pearls. Though I prefer to use my own handcrafted elements, occasionally I may use purchase ready-made components if I feel the design is better enhanced by their use.

The artistry is in the cutting, hammering, pulling, twisting, twirling, and swirling … all to create a treasure.

Primarily knitted baby,child, and adult hats and small modern quilts, with a sprinkling of other fun and eclectic child-centered accessories (plus some big people accessories, for good measure!).

We are best friends who love making things together and who also happen to be married (for nine years now!). We have an ever changing inventory of products based on our creative whims - we love coming up with new ideas and trying new techniques. Most of our business comes through custom orders - so if you see something you like at the show but need it in another size, color, pattern, etc., OR if you have an idea of something completely original, let us know and we can probably make it happen!

Tutus and hair accessories. Tutus for all ages and in many colors! The primary colors are pink but I take custom orders!

3. Tell us some more about yourself

I run for Ali Nunery, she is currently fighting a very rare and aggressive form of lung cancer. I started running for her at the Flying Pig Relay this year and I have been wearing pink and tutu for her ever since (she also loves tutu's and crafting). The first tutu I bought from a store and was lucky to find that. After the first race I decided to create a group on facebook called "Run and Rock Pink For Ali". I post races on the page and who ever who like to join in the run and wear pink and tutus is welcome. I post the pictures to help raise Ali's spirits. The tutu making came in when I wanted to have an all pink tutu but couldnt find them. I figured out how to make my own and told those who wanted to run and donate (I pledged a dollar per mile) to Ali's treatment I would make a tutu for them to wear (yes even the guys). I also then offered to make them and sell them to those who wanted them but didn't run and give the money directly to Ali. I sold a few....... I then made a bunch of tutu's for one of her fundraisers and actually sold out! I didnt keep track during the fundraiser (since I just put the money directly into her donation box) so I dont know how much was made from them. Enough money was raised however, during the one night happy hour to cover all of her bills. I checked with Ali's family and they told me they didnt need help with any additional bills so I will be donating some of the profits from the tutu sale to "Jill's Legancy", a non profit that helps conduct research to find a cure. I promised Ali and her family that I would continue to run for her (in pink and my tutu) until she cured and to create awareness of the dire need for research and for funding as lung cancer, although one of the most prevalent cancers in our society, still has the lowest survival rate. So I guess you could say "It' a craft and labor of love" :) I also started making hairbands and accessories since Ali loves to dress up her little girl. Feel free to look up the facebook page "Run and Rock Pink For Ali" and you can view all of the wonderful pictures and people who support her! I also make them for my nieces who just love them! The one picture "Melanie" is Ali's sister (thats how I got involved), she is pregnant so i made a special tutu for her and her growing belly.

Hi ya'll!!!! I'm Leslie of Jar of Vintage Buttons. The name of my business is actually the name of my blog, which is where you can find me most of the time doing DIY projects, planning parties, talking about Pinterest, writing about the house building process, and crossing off things from my 29th year bucket list. I L-O-V-E to create anything and everything so sometimes I have a hard time narrowing down just a few things to make and sell at shows. It all started several years ago with button rings and has blossomed into so much more. Like I said above, we are building a house and I put all of my inventory in storage thinking we would be in our new house several weeks before the Fair. Guess what? It looks like we are slated to move in the WEEKEND of the Fair. Nevertheless, I've had to start from scratch! But, be on the look out for chicken wire message boards, cork message boards, chalkboard platters and dry erase boards!

3. Tell us some more about yourself

Here's a few deets:
1. I'm the mom to a drop-dead gorgeous, curly haired baby girl

2. I'm a wife to a handsome man who understands my weirdness and need to constantly change the interior of our home (and is pretty handy with a table saw and tools thank goodness!)

3. I have the best friends and family in the world

4. I usually have spraypaint in my hair or under my fingernails

5. I always carry lip balm, paint swatches, blank notecards, a notebook to write down my crazy ideas, and there are always crushed goldfish at the bottom of my Kate Spade purse

That's my life...and I wouldn't have it any other way.

For the next several weeks leading up to the first ever Birds of a Feather Fair, we are going to begin featuring our vendors so you will be able to "meet" them and get a sneak peek of what to expect when you head to the Fair on November 6th at the Florence Hilton!

So, in our first feature, please say hello to Misty. She is the co-creator of the Birds of a Feather Fair and just so happens to be my best friend of nearly 18 years! Enjoy!

Hello! My name is Misty Porter and my shop on Etsy is not so ironically called Jewelry by Misty. I’m a lover of jewelry, especially Swarovski crystals, pearls, gemstones and all things that sparkle and shine! You’ll see this translated into my pieces.

2. What can shoppers expect to see at the Birds of a Feather Fair from your booth?

You can expect to see at the fair hand-crafted jewels that include: necklaces, earrings, bracelets, hairpins, and rings.

3. Tell us some more about yourself.

I’m a hobby enthusiast, along with my best friend Leslie. Together, we wanted to bring together a group of people who have taken “crafting” to a new level and inspire the rest of us. As the old saying goes, “birds of a feather flock together” hence the name of our first annual modern day craft fair. For us, the inspiration gets us ticking and keeps the passion for inventing, creating alive! I especially love jewelry for several reasons; the obvious is that I get to “play” with gorgeous, shiny beads, stones, and crystals, but also because this craft form is never ending. If you get bored, you can explore and learn a new method to making a new wonderful piece!

So my story goes…I started making jewelry just four years ago. I was a newlywed and was just settling into my first home. When it came time for thinking of Christmas gifts, I thought it’s about time I just go for it and do what I’ve always wanted to….let’s make some jewels! From the time I was a little girl, I’ve been mesmerized by jewels and wanted to know how exactly it was made, where the stones came from, who owned it before, etc. I have collected many pieces from my relatives; in my mind they mark a piece of our family history. Because of this, I was inspired to create jewelry of my own to mark a special occasion and show my family and friends how much I adore them! When I see the jewels worn by my loved ones, I am honored and overjoyed and hope they feel as special as I intended.

My philosophy is: wear accessories that make a statement or tell a story in it of itself. Hopefully you too will be inspired and find pieces within my collection that help to tell your story and add a bit of spice to your already fabulous self! I’m ever so thankful to have this opportunity to share a little about myself and am so excited to be joining the birds of a feather family with so many wonderfully talented vendors!! Welcome to the new blog for Birds of a Feather Fair! The first annual Birds of a Feather Fair will take place on November 6, 2011 from 11 am to 4 pm at the fabulous Florence Hilton on Turfway Road. We are bringing to you 50 of the area's best modern handcrafters all in one convenient craft show! But, be warned, this isn't your usual church craft show :) No crocheted toilet paper holders allowed! Stay tuned for updates and vendor applications coming soon!
